Cwmparc: Gates & Guards; Answers & Questions

This is another ‘quickie’. It began life last week when someone made me aware of what’s happening in Cwmparc, Treorchy, a community in the Rhondda Fawr.

In a nutshell . . . the new owner of a substantial property at the end of a terrace had put up heavy gates, denying locals access to the mountain behind. Access they’d enjoyed for generations. After protests, the gates were removed, but then they returned, this time with guards in attendance.

WHERE ARE WE?

Cwmparc lies in a side valley running west off the main valley. You can locate it in the maps below, with the property in question – 1 & 2 Ger-y-Coed – circled in red.

The properties were up for sale at the end of 2023. And sold early in 2024. The registered owner is Adam Lee Drew; certainly, his name is on the title documents. Though I’m not 100% convinced he is the owner.

Having mentioned title documents, I should explain there are quite a few relating to this plot. I only downloaded two because the Land Registry recently increased its prices. Which means a title document with plan now costs £14, up from £6.

(How the hell is anyone allowed to get away with a 133% increase?)

Anyway, here’s the first of the two titles I downloaded, WA212230, it covers some of the property including the debated access. And reads in part (dated 2016):

The registered proprietor claims that the land has

The land hatched in blue is the disputed access. Does what you read above infer there’s a public right of way?

The second, CYM398171, shows land lower down the hill, taking in one, possibly two, of these new houses. So I’m assuming the part boxed in green has been removed from the original title.

Soon after these titles were registered to him Drew became a director of a big Franco-US company by the name of Kyriba. A company registered with Companies House but headquartered in San Diego, California. I suspect Drew is CFO of Kyriba’s UK operation.

Before joining Kyriba, and according to his Linkedin profile, Drew worked for German outfit Suse.

POSSIBILE EXPLANATIONS

I think there are three possible explanations for what’s happening at Vicarage Terrace.

First, access; it’s about the land above Cwmparc, land managed by Natural Resources Wales. And if that’s the case, then we could be looking at yet more wind turbines. Possibly even solar panels, for the Rhondda is globally renowned for the 16 hours of sunshine it enjoys every day.

But this makes little sense, for the access past Ger-y-Coed would never accommodate the kind of vehicles needed to transport turbines and blades.

Which doesn’t rule out wind turbines. Perhaps the gates are to deter locals from seeing the preparatory work being done up on the mountain. And if it is turbines, then a new road will have to be cut somewhere to take the vehicles I just talked about.

If this is what’s happening, then Adam Lee Drew is fronting for someone else.

The second possibility is the property itself, 1 & 2 Ger-y-Coed. A substantial layout that could easily house 40 or 50 single individuals. Maybe more, at a squeeze.

I’m referring now to young men with no good reason to be here, who are a threat to public safety and social cohesion, yet are welcomed by Globalist puppet politicians – for those very reasons!

If this is the plan, then it could be Drew taking the heat for someone else, or he could be flying solo.

The third possibility is that this is nothing more than the new owner of the property being bloody awkward. In which case, Rhondda Cynon Taf council needs to pull its finger out and immediately declare the contested access a public right of way.

In fact, RCT could do that no matter which of those suggestions is correct. Even if it’s something else entirely.

GLOBAL SUPPORT FOR THE GATES, OR . . . ?

Maybe what made up my mind to put out this piece was the reactions I found on the Rhondda Leader Facebook page. To explain . . .

I’m in contact with a well-informed individual who told me that her father, in Treorchy, had heard nothing about the Cwmparc furore. So I Googled ‘Rhondda Leader’, the local weekly ‘paper.

There’s an X account, and a Facebook page; but on the X account, where I expected to find a link to the Rhondda Leader website, there was only a link to the Rhondda page of WalesOnline.

Of the six Cwmparc access articles on the Facebook page yesterday, one had 7 comments, one had 10, one 64, one 542, one 670, and this one 2,300 comments. Is this a record for the Rhondda Leader?

So I focused on the report that garnered most responses. And something started to strike me as odd. And that was so many comments supporting the actions of Adam Lee Drew in blocking off the access.

And in terms of their geographic spread, these comments came from northern Scotland all the way down to southern England, even from overseas – but few from anywhere near Cwmparc!

Then the closer I looked at these supportive comments, the iffier some of them looked. Here’s a small selection. And these were all found among the first few comments to the piece I just linked to.

I went to ‘Dyan Chamberlain’s FB account. What I found looks, well, ‘bare’. It seems to be a lot of stock photos. Is it genuine?

Another that caught my eye was the contribution from ‘Keith Jackson’

So, I checked out his FB account. It suggests that ‘Keith Jackson’, if he exists, lives in the land currently being liberated by President Trump and his team. (Glory to them!)

There was even a supportive comment from an ‘Alan Barsteward‘. Which drew applause from ‘Chris Mutch‘, who claims to live in Cardiff.

As I say, I don’t know a lot about Facebook, and I only scratched the surface of the comments. But I saw enough to suggest there’s an organised campaign to support Adam Drew, his gates and his guards.

But who’d organise such a campaign over a dispute between neighbours? It suggests there might be rather more to those gates, and the guards, doesn’t it?

Latest news is that there was a protest yesterday, and there was a good turnout considering the bad weather.

CONCLUSION

As I was writing this, I slowly dismissed the idea of Drew, a Rhondda boy, buying these properties, to live in himself, surrounded by neighbours he’d pissed off.

What’s panning out tells me he won’t be living there. Which takes us on to the other options – ‘renewables’ and housing illegal aliens.

The first I also dismiss for the reasons given above. The remaining possibility made me think of an earlier example.

Cast your mind back to events at the Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli a while ago. Almost 100 staff were sacked because the Home Office wanted to bring in over 200 ‘asylum seekers’, all young men.

There was near-unanimous opposition. Though politicians and media tried to discredit worried locals by claiming those protesting were ‘far right’ and ‘outsiders’.

Stradey Park Hotel was an eye-opener for anyone who still believed in politicians, or trusted the media. Thankfully, the locals won.

One factor I’m sure was that, from a security perspective, the Llanelli site was on a busy road, making it too accessible. It was almost impossible to keep protesters away.

Not so at Cwmparc. At Ger-y-Coed it would be easy to restrict and control access. In fact, Cwmparc itself could be sealed with a couple of choke points.

If I’m right, then someone in Corruption Bay, and also at RCT council, knows what’s planned. (And it’s why I’ve submitted a FoI to the Home Office.)

So let’s have openness. Because too much of what happens in Wales is hidden from us by politicians and civil servants who, at the macro level, serve Globalists and their corporate friends, helping them exploit and wreck Wales.

At the micro level, priorities are determined by pressure groups, composed of leftists, anti-white racists, ‘environmentalists’, sexual deviants, and some who can only be labelled – and I say this without wishing to offend – certifiable fucking nutters.

So let’s have some uncharacteristic honesty from a corrupt political class and its scheming bureaucracy – tell us what’s planned for Ger-y-Coed in Cwmparc.

If they won’t do the decent thing then, instead of asking concerned locals how many different ways they can say, ‘Ooooh, isn’t it awful!’, let our media redeem themselves.

UPDATE 27.02.2025: This report just appeared in WalesOnline. The owners (un-named) claim that a number of problems — basically, anti-social behaviour – left them no option but to install the gates.

Observations:

It’s reasonable to assume that these issues would have been reported to the police, the council, local politicians, Natural Resources Wales. The owners might even have reached out to the local community in Cwmparc. Did they?

Even if the claims are true, 3m high solid fencing, motorised gates, and guards, seems like an over-reaction to what was after all just anti-social behaviour. And a very expensive reaction!

Apparently Switzerland, in my limited understanding of their setup (although I’d put it to the test against any non-native Joe Bloggs – I wonder how many would correctly answer the Canton of Bern is only the de facto capital and not constitutionally in a pub quiz), puts big political decisions to the people. Imagine if they tried that here with missiles for Ukraine, 20mph, migrant hotels and the like. It’d make for interesting times if the people didn’t give the ‘right’ answer.

A neutral state can make non-military interventions. Classic example is the uncovering of the ‘Cobolt’ in Ireland. It would be interesting to find the source of evidence of the alleged Oleg Voloshyn payments to Nathan Gill. Repressive regimes of various states think they can use neutral states as puppets. They are mistaken. Neutral states hold some cards in the deck that some of the most powerful do not posses.

One issue you have too is the Land Registry and title docs. Starting in 1980 all land bought and sold had to be registered with the LR and so the old paper Deeds were binned. Bad idea in a way as it was esp in older properties Historical. Recently I advised ppl I know over a dispute over access. They had not been notified of Adverse Possession by neighbours over their common exit access from the rear of their properties onto the public highway. Its a legal requirement and in some cases to post a public notice in situ or and in the local newspapers so that anyone has a right to challenge with good reason…so…the land registry did not know that there was access across 5 houses land down to this exit as they had taken “the statement of truth” as being true and therefore they had not conducted due dilligence and therefore had breached the law. The access was then re instated and those who had blocked off access were now legally required to open it up via gated access. So this may be of use…but planning laws are now so easily manipulated by ppl who use planning lawyers. You do not have to declare restrictive covenants when u sell a property its up to the Conveyancers to do the necessary searches…so..

A restrictive covenant does exist on the title deed of the annexe which covers the access point. 

It relates to maintaining access (like no parking) a privilege afforded to the other property, the main house. Consolidating the title into one party means both title holders can agree to remove such a covenant by agreement between parties.

We know this restriction is not now enforced as the photo shows the van of the security guards parked there.

The ‘public’ are not party to the covenant, but the easiest option is for the access point to be deemed ‘permissive’. This is where access to the public is granted but not officially designated as a ‘right of way’. The ‘permissive’ status cannot be used (like use thereof) to make it so.

Some parts of the ‘Wales Coast Path’ is designated as ‘permissive’. Means sections can be closed at will by the title holder for fixed periods by MoD or farmer or Wildlife Trust for a set purpose, like firing, crop or bird conservation.

I did conveyancing and its never a straighforward answer and established useage to create access is a minefield…but putting up a gate which can be bolted and therefore restrict access is a breach of the covenant unless a person is stationed there all night and day to enable unchallenged access…ah the joys of Bosherton and the distant rolls of thunder..The Pembs NP is also in some cases under the Crown Estates and also the National Trust.As you know there are dominant and serviant persons involved and yes they can come to an agreement to extinguish the easement known as a Deed of Release..some legal docs refer to beneficiary as another way of describing who obviously benefits by these easements being put in place…well, what can I say. Wales has its own planning laws too which may vary from the English ones…that I dont know. Thank you for your informative reply

Case of the new foot and cycle path section not far from Nantgaredig.

It’s between Carmarthen and Llandeilo. Old railway track mainly elevated on embankment along the Tywi flood plain. The farmers had been gifted the vacant track bed for a nominal sum from British Rail in the 1960s. Since then holdings consolidated to both sides of the old railway line and a need for cows to cross it. So the council proactively sat down with the farmers and agreed new covenants and volunteered to pay for some infrastructure like installation of cattle grids, kissing gates and a double gated chicane for bicycles along that section. This allowed for the enjoyment of the adjacent landowner, unfettered access for cattle and farmer while also allowing ‘permissive’ access for the foot and cycle path. A negotiation between two interested parties. Some previous railway type covenants released.

Perhaps RCT council is not as proactive as Carmarthenshire?

I think the covenant relates to my mother and stepfather being allowed to access number 1 across the land owned by grandfather and allow them to park on the other side. My mother bought the freehold from him for number 1 but this reinforced rights in law for any occupants of
number 1. My grandfather always maintained the road be kept clear for emergency vehicle access. But as detailed elsewhere there was no restriction on public access to the mountain.

So, the presumption is the rights of access are established or I should say assumption…but the first rule in law is the ass of assumption makes an ass of you! and so true. Joking apart…something seems to be terribly wrong and it may be worth asking the LandR what is going on. people lie and the land registry doesnt always as I said do due dilligence when granting applications for access and possession. If the land is managed by NRW who owns it? do we know.

It’s actually not that big internally-most of the lower part are workshops and garages. 1 & 2 Ger-y-Coed were build as 2 bedroom flats above the workshop. I know because my grandfather built them for his sons originally and as his grandson I lived in number one from 1975 to the 90s. Number 2 was extended but is really just 4 bedroomed. Would need a lot of subdivision to make into a HMO.
Regardless-access to all was unfettered 365 days a year from the 60s when the land was bought and businesses ran from it (mainly construction and carpentry) until my 2015 when by grandfather died and my mother sold up (she was already more or retired to Spain). The intervening owner also allowed access until he too passed.
The galling part is Glyn Wigley, my grandfather, actually encouraged access. He learned his trade as a carpenter as apprentice to the pit carpenter in one of the two mines in Cwmparc ( not sure if the Dare or Parc). He built a bench and small tribute garden about 10 metres from that gate primarily as a rest stop for older walkers (many retired miners) after walking up a very steep hill. Not making out he was a saint or anything-he had his faults as we all do, but allowing all to share the countryside was his aim.
So there has been at least 60 years of access. It does not cut though a garden-there is a car park on the other side of the road. There is no door immediately to the road from the house. The door at ground level is to the work. This is either pure selfishness or something else being down very secretly.

It appears to be very substantial now. There have been several extension built onto it over the 30 years that I have been walking past there.

My mother moved out in 2015. The extensions were mainly built by my grandfather through the 80s to around 2009 when age and arthritis got the better of him. As far as I am aware there has not been much substantial addition rather completion of unfinished work. A lot of what you see was pretty much shell and the ground floor was always workshops, storage and garaging. My grandfather had great vision and ambition though reality and finance often fell short.

There is the original estate agent sales details now up on our site detailing the property. One substantial four bedroom house, three 2/3 bedroom flats all with garages and a pub?
It has an extensive drive access from lower down the hill leading to the property and no longer needs the mountain access road to leave/exit. This further beggar’s belief as to the purpose of the new gates.

Personally I have no interest in what the property is to be used for. That is a separate issue. I would like the road to the mountain made available to all as it always has been.

There is a small coal tip on a slope just above a stream called Nant Y Blaidd.

The tip (overgrown with turf) is named after this stream that flows down to Treorchy just over the hill. To access this tip you can go through the Vicarage Lane access to the mountain, the one now gated, and wind through the forestry tracks. There is an alternate route via Chepstow Road but that involves a 180degree turn unsuitable for heavy vehicles. Nant Y Blaidd tip was reclassified from category A to B by the Welsh Government as of January 2025. The new owner of the property may have been approached relating to access and is attempting to use this ransom strip in order to extort access revenue for contractors to attend to Nant Y Blaidd tip. Which MS is going to find out if this is the case?

A householder spending thousands on motorised gates and security guards suggests this is more than a ‘my pathway’ dispute between neighbours.

Or the Home Office. 

Important to note that an investment vehicle called Gryphon Leisure masquerading as a hotel proprietor was used to secure a Home Office contract over the Stradey Park Hotel to house asylum seekers. Property was going for auction but spotted by a civil servant in Whitehall as an opportunity, so sold to Gryphon as a private treaty, contracts in place. The nature of the transaction and the plans only became apparent when all the staff were fired. 

Note – The blockade at Stradey was only possible as a strip of land at the entrance had public access and boulders were placed there and a vigil established frustrating the plan.  

This property in Cwmparc, Rhondda was also recently advertised at auction and may have been spotted by the same Home Office scout so acquired by private treaty in the same manner. The end use to house asylum seekers. A key requirement for such use is absolute title and remove all public access from the entrance. Hence the new gates and security guards already on site.

The big house and associated annexe (1 and 2) have been consolidated into one title of ownership and recently removed from the register and no longer appear as residential properties subject council tax according to the RCT council tax band search. This means they are 

(a) being transferred as a commercial property subject to business rates (like an outward-bound bunkhouse) but that would need planning permission, or

(b) it is to be acquired by the crown for use by the Home Office circumventing the local authority and the Welsh Government. 

For this to happen the proprietor of the title need be a British Citizen.

However, the corporate entity you identify is registered overseas. This may be the reason for the use of a non-practicing chartered accountant (from Llwyncelyn just down the valley) the elusive Drew, who you notice also just happens to sit on the board of directors of the corporate entity you’ve already identified. Appointed concurrently.

Wouldn’t it be amusing if, overnight, some large bolders or an enormous mound of sharp sand or gravel appeared in front of the gated access preventing access further.

As mentioned below, prescriptive rights, an easement over time, around 20 years usually, as I recall.

Looking forward to this develop, with photos of screaming lady of the house. I think they’re on to a loser.

You would probably have to access at the top off the Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road and come down the 5-6 miles to the tip. Can’t think of any other viable vehicular access. The gate is only obstructing about 20-30m of road to the NRW/Forestry Commission gates (which allow pedestrian/cycle/equine) access. There is pedestrian access to the ‘Target’ from lower Cwmparc but good luck with that is you are elderly, have small children or any mobility issues

Yep. That’s one hell of a hike into the cwm and then climb the southern flank of the hill to turn back on yourself to get to into the forest. As can be seen here.

Drew and looks like his Mrs are directors of Fortitude financial services so idk about the American link. There has been a woman shouting at locals telling them to get off her land so I’m not sure if they live there or not but it’s definitely a dodgy going on

Fortitude Accountants Wales Ltd has only had a very small turnover and is currently dormant. Suggests it was only used sporadically for some corner shop bookkeeping. This raises the question of why Mr Drew would trouble himself with buttons as a side-hustle when he has half a million in cash to acquire this property in Cwmparc? Unless he has a corporate day-job and acting for person ore persons unknown.

If the community have used this access over a period of years then they can claim prescriptive rights which make their informal use of the access a formal right of way.
