Yes I write to the press but I don’t read papers. I use the press reader app to see who has published my letters but I never look at letters pages so have no idea who else writes. If you pick the right editor you can get in multiple papers with the same letter. I then screen-grab and post on socials. Next time I check I’ll search for you as well

No I’ve never worked in a power station or been a power engineer. Closest I’ve ever been was my dad ran Wylfa. I dont recall ever claiming I was a power engineer. I’m a chemical engineer. Worked a lot with offshore oil

However, quite a few work at National Grid who are getting on with all this

H2CCGT? – Google Pembroke Net Zero Centre

Geothermal? – wonderful if cost effective. Heat my own home with a GSHP

Space solar? – wonderful if cost effective. Can’t beat renewables. Surely launch cost is an issue? What would I need to receive the 15 kW I’m currently pulling from the grid?

Backup for no wind? CCGTs fired with hydrogen produced when there’s too much wind. It’s what is planned for Pembroke.

I am glad you use the word ‘seem’ as it is totally misleading as the wind does not always blow and when it does it can be at the wrong time. Unfortunately for your…er…reasoning, the wind does not track power demand. What have you to say on orbital power stations??????


If, for example, Wales installs an offshore capacity of say 47GW, what backup do you suggest when the wind fails? You offer: Wasn’t it the Spanish-American philosopher Santayana who said “those who do not remember the past are condemned to re-live it” I have already made comment on this observation in the media and if you look in the mirror you will find your answer Jonathan. Just love the concept of floating wind farms out in the Celtic Sea…and I feel certain that the late Lewis Carroll would just love the idea…and feel another book coming on.
 

Really? Can you list the…er…proposed/planned CCGTs powered by hydrogen then? Not into geothermal energy or power from orbit then Jonathan.
Have you ever worked in or around a power station….have you been a power engineer…your observations strongly suggest you have not!
