In my view the money would be better spent on creating an infrastructure for all, rather than unsuccessfully promoting a language for just a few zealots.

As far as nationalism is concerned, I’m perfectly content with being British. After all, being British is what gives me my safety, security and prosperity that I currently enjoy. I have racked my brains, such as they are, to see what being Welsh has ever done for me, apart, of course, from being the butt of many a joke from others. I usually tell folks that I’m from Cardiff and thst we just put up with the language zealots and nationalists.

Why not accept these facts and rejoice in being part of the UK which has provided you with the prosperity, security and safety that you currently enjoy.

Don’t worry, Jac, our history won’t be forgotten. The cowardly act of Owen Glyndwr in running away from his opponents and skulking in hiding for the rest of his miserable life will not be forgotten. Neither will the outrageous hypocrisy and cowardice of Gwynfor Evans, the self proclaimed ‘pacifist’ who, during the war, hid himself in deepest Wales growing tomatoes for profit whilst true pacifists were on the field of battle tending to the dying and wounded of both sides whilst unarmed. This is the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about. But it also explains why, since the reawakening of the 1960s, the British State has done everything in its power, short of Clearances and assisted migration schemes, to bring into Wales as many English people as possible.

On the plus side, the two devolution referenda and various surveys, have shown us that Welsh – even Welsh-only – identification is shared by Welsh speakers and anglophones. But even so, given that there are now so many English in Wales it would require a massive majority from the Welsh to win any independence referendum.
