While it may not be a one size fits all solution at least there are proven programmes that enable people to stay in their native areas. Funding is a problem as Tories have been hacking away at anything left standing regardless of merit but there are areas where local authorities are at least trying to make some headway. Interesting that sometimes it’s the owners of properties, often near-ruins or worse, that are the biggest obstacles but that’s greed for you.

Here in Wales a whole row of housing at Aberllefeni, in Cwm Dulas a tributary valley of the Dyfi, is up for sale at £1.3-1.4 million for c.15 dwellings. Less than 100k each, O.K you might spend a bit doing some up but checking the externals on Google Earth they look a lot better than some of the stuff I’ve seen costing a lot more not far away from there. The hazard is that some greedy cnut like the Williamses will get their paws on these, whereas it is tailor made for some sort of community initiative, aren’t they called housing associations ?, to ensure affordable homes for the people of that area.

Now I’m NOT advocating that WWHA or similar gets turned loose in that area, but given that Cynulliad saw fit to lob £millions the other day to a bunch of employers who could yet do a bunk if Brexit proves too hard for them I think that a £1.5million long term loan or equity funding combined with a working capital budget would be a sound investment in defending community cohesion. There must be a relevant source of such funding within Cardiff Bay given the amount of loot they are habitually lobbing all over the place to back dubious ventures. Perhaps we should dress up as spivs, adopt cross border accents, table a proposal and be greeted as messiahs by Smiler or one of his overrated colleagues.

P.S He’s probably telling Smiler Skates to get some “evidence” of the Williams’ integrity so that they too can be “looked after” in the time-honoured fashion ! You just got to support people who purport to be developing a classy line of tourism and hospitality. They might even wish to employ a political consultant sometime after one’s retirement from public office.

I see Carwyn “Big Shot” Jones talking today about doling out more money to “strategic industries” to enable them to weather the Brexit storm. Nothing particularly wrong with that except that it conforms to the well known pattern that Labour prefers to do its deals with major multinationals while leaving native businesses ( generally much smaller & more vulnerable) to feel any pain that comes out of Mrs May’s cackhanded management of the Brexit process.
