I’m assuming you refer to the Arctic regions as a potential foothold towards taking more populated territory and not an end in themselves, unless you’re thinking mineral rights?

Harmless bombast. Unless of course the Greenlanders vote to join the USA.

The bigger issue here – and this ties in with his remarks about Canada – is that there are vast expanses of Arctic territory that are virtually undefended against any advances by Russia, China, or any other potential enemy. In fact, there was a piece in today’s Telegraph about an abandoned Canadian base somewhere out in the icy wastes.

An undefended Arctic is obviously of concern to the USA. And that concern in perfectly legitimate.
