On Sep 16th, 2023, the village of Llansilin was awoken from a 600 years slumber when the sound of banging drums(Band Merched Beca), the appearance of fluttering Glyndwr flags, and a small, but colourful procession of people bedecked in yellow and red unified to form a dignified tribute to Prince Owain Glyndwr in his former manorial seat, near Oswestry. At the end of the parade, a wreath-laying ceremony and speeches took place at the mural dedicated to Owain and Lady Marged Hanmer erected on the village green. During the proceedings, scores of villagers left their houses and front door steps to take photographs and to video the colourful parade in honour of the last Prince of Wales. Later that afternoon, more than 70 people from Llansilin walked to Sycharth from the village pub(1.7 miles each way) to hear a reading of Iolo Goch’s famous poem on top of the old motte. Well done to Llansilin. Looking forward to next year’s celebrations !

Hi Jac o the North,
I and a few friends visited on Sep 16, 2022, and we left behind some colourful tributes on the mural dedicated to Owain and Marged situated on the village green, Llansilin. After checking these tributes(flags, wreaths, ribbons etc.) last week, I was truly delighted that the locals see fit to leave these offerings on display for all Glyndwr enthusiasts to see and enjoy. We will be visiting again this year (Sat, Sep 16, 2023)@ 2pm.

In reply to Dafis. The main stream media do have variable memories when they label anyone to the right of Corbyn as a Fascist or a Nazi. From what I have researched, the National Socialist and German Workers Party (proprietor A Hitler) was not that right disposed.

Postscript – The new P.M of Italy, Giorgia Meloni is much nicer looking than the hatchet faced Liz Truss and sounds much less of an old Fascist despite her declared liking of Benito’s ideas. Brit MSM’s habit of prefacing everything they say about her with “far right” is just more negative bullshit from a mass media that does fuck all to inform its readership, just shovels out any old biased rubbish topped up with a hefty layer of downright lies and prejudice. Bit like an overrich cake, gone off. Time they ditched their tendency to trot out a limited range of debate material and got stuck into what really makes modern Britain a stinking cesspit of corruption and incompetence. Meanwhile back at the most important, most admired, most beautiful city in the world ( yes, you’ve guessed, it’s London in Boris speak) Truss and her boy Kwasi have accelerated the pace of destruction of the UK economy. Economics was never a robust science anyway but these 2 festering cvnts have had a ball burning up the books shredding all kinds of orthodoxies and substituting anarchy. They have stepped up the speed at which wealth gets sucked out of the economy into coffers of the relative few, the wealthy, mostly elitist bloated manipulators who will be laughing their cox off while everybody else’s life is driven into the gutter. We were already on the road to serfdom, now we are flying along freight class just like that other massive campaign of annihilation 80 odd years ago but this time using poverty as a primary tool rather than gas ( cos that’s too expensive !). And our Bay crew worries about how our rural enterprises might be toxic for the rest of the country. How far up their own arses can they jam their heads ?

The male line of the House of Aberffraw died out when an assassin sent by the English king killed Owain ap Thomas ap Rhodri, 'Owain Lawgoch', in 1378 while he was fighting for the French. Glyndwr claimed the title due to his descent from the princes of Powys and Deheubarth. And this claim must have been valid to have been accepted by the great mass of the Welsh people, including those in Gwynedd, a notoriously disputatious class of nobles and barons, plus of course, the church.
