Yup! The Parliamentary Prayer Book Act of 1662 refers to the “Welsh or Brittish tongue”. No subsequent Parliamentary Act has EVER made English the “British language”.

English is a “West Germanic” language……. It is not “British” !!

The English did not even BECOME “BRITISH” until unification with Scotland in 1707. The Welsh are the original “British” . Wales…from “Wealas” was the Germanic or Anglo-Saxon term for the BRITISH! Early Welsh …or “British” ….was the language of what is now England and Southern Scotland for a 1000 YEARS before the English came from Germany …..and the “Scots” from Ireland !!
. The oldest existing Welsh poetry was composed in Welsh-speaking Dineidin…….now called Edinburgh…circa AD 600. It is called “Y Gododdin “[the Votadini] by Aneirin

Make no mistake…IT’S WELSH! I have a facsimile copy of “Y Gododdin” from mediaeval times.

The term “British” has MOST CERTAINLY changed its meaning. For, maybe, 2000 plus years….it meant the “Welsh”…..and for a couple of hundred recent years ,its meant “English” ,more or less….to the world!

By the way this history is really the basis of the song “Yma o hyd !”…..”We’re still here!”

The word “BRITAIN” was “Prytan” to the Romans…….which derived from the Welsh/Brythonic “Pryden ” or “Prydyn” , which comes from “Pryd” meaning “form or shape” and “Dyn ” meaning “man”….It referred to the woad patterns on the skins of the inhabitants pre-Roman times. The Romans took names that were already there.

Hence the land of the “Prytan” became “Britannia”…..about 400 YEARS BEFORE THE ENGLISH EVER SET FOOT ON THIS ISLAND!!
Never forget that basic truth!
The Angles and Saxons [ hence Saeson] did not even arrive in any numbers until AFTER the Romans left in AD 410.
So “Britannia” and “British” were NOTHING to do with them !!

My take is he ignores the intractable problem: England is far too large and ergo the only logical solution is to break up into successor states. For Christ’s sake, the solution to their pontificating stares them in the face.

One of the spokesmen reckoned the thing could gobble up over £4 Billion which should give Drakeford and Rishi a fit of anxiety. They love talking about these things but shelling out is a different proposition. Possibly they are aware despite all the bullshit that this is a dirty technology that turns their green credentials a dirty shade of brown.

Cast your memory back to Swansea Council Leader’s promises the few weeks before last May’s Council election and just after. Were they all false promises? Or if they ever go ahead, will there be any British Volt situations? Swansea Labour Council is so desperate to net a big fish that they would invest the Council Workers pension funds, and the Unions (being Labour) have not challenged or scrutinised that. Swansea Council suffers with ‘small man syndrome’ ever since Russell Goodwage belittled the man he, Goodwage, in derision Christened as Mr Bean.

Must start at “the top” with Drakeford and his constant bleating about how he sympathises with health workers, ambulance drivers, wishes they could be paid more “but Westminster won’t give Wales the money to do so.” As the subject matter of this thread is loony schemes, all Drakeford has to do is scrap his ludicrous plans to spend £32.5 million on making every urban road 20 mph. The economic cost to Wales of this idiocy is put at £4.3 BILLION in disruption, delays, etc, by the Welsh Government’s OWN commissioned economic report.
