One of the more bizarre organisations is the Worshipful Company of Educators, who offer membership “according to the Custom of London, by Patrimony, Servitude, or Redemption.” One such ‘freeman’ of these nobles is actuary a woman, currently residing in Wales. Ms Sara Mogel OBE. She’s got a sister in her home county of Kent, She’s an MBE. Our Sara has a new appointment, as a board member of Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, finding homes on the north Wales coast for the poor. This goes down most graciously with her concurrent work as director of Future Enterprise North West, charity supporting the homeless, in errr….Cheshire. She collected her OBE for her work as principle of West Cheshire College and the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership. She’s also managing director of “Womens Leadership Network” an all women empowerment group, which might leave her, being servile to her worshipful freemen, up the creek without a paddle. No bother. She’s also now a board member of North Wales and Borders Waterway Partnership. She really does paddle the creek.

In reply to Red ². The example I used in an earlier post on these people was Al Capone. Al was a stand-up guy, used to organise soup kitchens and hand-outs for Chicago's poor during the Depression, got him a lot of good publicity. And of course, drew attention from his real activities.

In reply to Jac. Well, you'll find the Church charges money for these type of services. These W C of Spivs in the City of London merely exist to give the members an appearance of doing good deeds. It's a bit like the Nazis giving presents to orphans.

In reply to Red ². In polite society you might be called an irritating, nit-picking pedant. (I could think of other descriptions!) It don't really matter whether the Archbish is reading the Lesson prior to the bunfight, dining with these loonies, or entertaining them with a post-prandial song and dance routine, the issue is that he is involved in any way, shape, or form.

In reply to Jac. I was amused to read that the Archbishop's Easter Sunday morning sermon was on the subject of .....climate change. I think I'm entitled to rest my case.
